Some maintenance methods for the clutch disc and the clutch pressure plate!

February 24, 2025

Latest company news about Some maintenance methods for the clutch disc and the clutch pressure plate!

The following are the maintenance methods for the clutch disc and the clutch pressure plate:

### Clutch Disc Maintenance
1. **Check the wear condition**: Use a vernier caliper to measure the distance from the surface of the clutch to the rivets. If it is less than the limit value (generally 0.3 mm), or the wear limit of the friction disc reaches 0.5 mm, it usually needs to be replaced. Check whether there are cracks, detachment, severe ablation, severe oil stains, etc. on the friction disc. If so, it must be replaced.
2. **Treatment of minor problems**: If there is a small amount of oil stains on the friction disc, it can be cleaned with gasoline and then dried. If there is slight hardening or ablation, it can be filed or sanded with coarse sandpaper.
3. **Check other components**: Check whether the damping spring is worn, loose, broken or weakened. You can shake the driven disc. If there is an obvious sound from the spring, it means that the damping spring is loose, and the driven disc should be replaced. Check whether the spline fit between the hub spline and the spline on the transmission input shaft is appropriate and whether the wear is severe.
4. **Replace the clutch disc**: If replacement is required, first remove the relevant components, such as the drive shaft, exhaust pipe, etc. Then remove the bolts connecting the gearbox and the engine. After sliding out the gearbox, remove the clutch pressure plate and the clutch disc. When installing a new clutch disc, pay attention to centering to ensure it is installed in place. Then install the new pressure plate and tighten the bolts evenly.

### Clutch Pressure Plate Maintenance
1. **Check the condition of the pressure plate**: Use a steel ruler and feeler gauge to measure the flatness of the pressure plate. If the maximum gap between the pressure plate and the flat ruler exceeds 0.5 mm, it generally needs to be replaced. Check whether there are cracks, deformations on the pressure plate, and whether there are severe wear, ablation, etc. on the friction surface. For a diaphragm spring clutch, also check the diaphragm spring. If the thickness of the diaphragm spring is worn to half, or it is bent, broken or has an abnormal height difference due to long-term load, it needs to be replaced.
2. **Repair of minor damages**: When there are slight ablation and scratches on the working surface of the pressure plate, it can be polished smooth with an oilstone. When the groove depth on the working surface of the pressure plate exceeds 0.5 mm or the flatness error exceeds 0.12-0.20 mm, it can be repaired by grinding or turning. However, the total cutting amount should not exceed 1.0-1.5 mm, and a balance test should be carried out after processing.
3. **Replace the clutch pressure plate**: If the pressure plate is severely worn, too thin, has significant planar cracks or is completely broken, and if there are cracks in the clutch cover, or it has severe warping deformation, etc., a new clutch pressure plate and clutch cover should be replaced.

When maintaining the clutch disc and the clutch pressure plate, appropriate tools need to be prepared, and the specifications and steps in the vehicle maintenance manual should be followed to ensure safe operation. If you are not familiar with or unsure about the maintenance operation, it is recommended to go to a professional maintenance shop for maintenance.
